Pusdorf Pictures

Project: Pusdorf Pictures – So klingen wir (2022)

Pusdorf Pictures – So klingen wir! (“How We Sound!”) was a major, participatory community music project held in Woltmershausen, affectionately known by its residents as “Pusdorf.” Co-initiated by the Kulturhaus Pusdorf, the Bremen Philharmonic, and the socio-cultural institution Quartier, this unique musical district walk brought the entire neighborhood to life.
The artistic and musical foundation of the project was Modest Mussorgsky’s iconic masterpiece Pictures at an Exhibition (in the orchestral version by Maurice Ravel). Serving as the composer, conductor, and overall artistic director, Peter Friemer re-composed and varied Mussorgsky’s themes to fit thirteen local music ensembles, youth workshops, and choirs. In total, the production featured 10 distinct variations for local ensembles accompanied by string and brass quintets, alongside 10 grand variations and 2 intermezzos custom-tailored for full orchestra.
