Sehnsucht Ankommen

Project: Sehnsucht Ankommen (2018)

Sehnsucht Ankommen (“Longing to Arrive”) was an extraordinary, large-scale community music project that brought an entire district of Bremen to life. Across three different stages in Woltmershausen, amateur ensembles, local choirs, and youth music workshops joined forces with the professional musicians of the Bremen Philharmonic to bridge cultural divides—uniting the sounds of the Orient and Occident, Folk, Latin, Rock, and Classical music.
Centered around the theme of “arrival,” the ensembles engaged deeply with melodic motifs from Antonín Dvořák’s iconic Symphony No. 9 (“From the New World”). Moving away from their usual repertoire, the musicians performed exclusive, custom-tailored compositions and arrangements by Peter Friemer, who masterfully wove Dvořák’s themes into fresh contemporary frameworks.
